Varanasi: The registration process for creating farmers’ digital IDs in Varanasi has gained significant pace with 84.67% of the district’s targeted farmers registered so far. The drive is being carried out as part of the govt’s effort to create digital identities for farmers to ensure timely access to welfare schemes.Deputy director of agriculture Amit Jaiswal said against the district’s target to register 2,89,190 farmers, 2,44,854 farmers were registered by Sept. Camps are being held across the district to cover the remaining eligible farmers, while registrations are also being carried out through online modes. The Farmer ID will help farmers access govt schemes and agricultural services, including PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, seed subsidy, fertiliser subsidy and insurance schemes, easily. Through Direct Benefit Transfer, financial assistance will be sent directly to eligible farmers’ bank accounts, ensuring greater transparency and reducing dependence on middlemen. The registry will also digitally link farmers’ land and agricultural records. Registered farmers are expected to benefit more easily from crop insurance, agricultural loans and relief support during disasters such as droughts and floods. Efforts are continuing to bring the remaining eligible farmers under the digital system.
