Motha sweeps Tripura ADC village committee polls with 2,803 seats

Agartala: Tipra Motha won 2,803 of 3,470 contested seats in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections on Monday, even as counting was disrupted by tension, protests and road blockades in several parts of the state.BJP secured 508 seats, while Independents won 93. CPM bagged 40 seats, Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) secured 16 and Congress won 10. Altogether, there are 4,594 seats, of which 1,124 seats were won uncontested.Polling across 587 village committees was held on Sept 28, recording an 81% turnout.The vote-counting process was affected by isolated incidents in several districts. Officials said the situation was brought under control by the police and administration, and that no political party had formally complained about the counting process.Tension was reported at Poly Bari School in Sepahijala district, where Tipra Motha supporters allegedly blocked roads, disrupting access for supporters and counting agents of other parties. Opposition leaders staged a protest at Jatrapur police station.In Dhalai district’s Salema block, CPM alleged that its counting agents were prevented from entering Maharani High School. Party workers and supporters subsequently blocked the road in the area.In Khowai district, a confrontation outside Bharat Sardar Vidyalaya escalated after a crowd allegedly attempted to breach the security cordon.
