No garbage bins from Benaulim to Colva beach stretch
The issue became more noticeable over the last weekend, which saw an unusual increase in domestic tourist footfalls due to the long weekend

Colva: The 4km stretch between Benaulim and Colva beaches in South Goa has turned “binless”, with the beach-cleaning agency, which removes the garbage bins before the monsoon, yet to reinstate them. The issue became more noticeable over the last weekend, which saw an unusual increase in domestic tourist footfall due to the long weekend starting with Gandhi Jayanti.Sernabatim beach is a major attraction for picnickers and families, generating a substantial quantity of waste, said locals.Locals and tourists visiting the area have few options to dispose of their waste. As a result, plastic wrappers, bottles and other garbage are discarded on the beach, raising concerns of coastal environment pollution and affecting the overall visitor experience. An official from Ecostan Infra, the company responsible for beach-cleaning, said the garbage bins were removed before the monsoon. The company said strong tidal movement during the rains poses a risk of the bins being dragged into the sea.The company said it is in the process of installing garbage bins at the beach and that the exercise would be completed soon.
