Shillong: A man convicted of killing a 79-year-old woman and her 25-year-old domestic help in Nongstoin in 2021 has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.The District and Sessions Court, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin, sentenced Banphrangkupar Nongbri on Sept 30 in what police described as a “heinous twin murder case”.The court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for the rest of his “natural life” and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for each victim, police said on Saturday night.The elderly victim’s son filed an FIR at Nongstoin police station on Aug 24, 2021, the day of the incident.According to the West Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Phlesis Syiem and her domestic help, Maitlynti Lyngdoh Marshillong, were murdered during a robbery.Police said Nongbri confessed during the investigation.In a separate case, West Garo Hills police on Sunday recovered the body of pick-up vehicle driver Samuel R Marak, who was reported missing from Tura on Sept 28.A search was launched after his wife filed a missing-person complaint. Police are investigating the cause of death. The body was recovered far from his residence.
