Coimbatore: High drama unfolded at Meenakshipuram near Dharapuram on Sunday evening after NTK candidate Karthika and party cadres entered chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s roadshow route, triggering a face-off with TVK cadres.The NTK campaign convoy arrived waving flags just ahead of the CM’s arrival, leading to a heated sloganeering match between both factions. While police stepped in and directed NTK members to clear the passage, the cadres sat on the road, staging a sit-in protest against alleged bias.Karthika accused authorities of high-handedness. “We were wrapping up our final-day campaign. As a contesting candidate, I have the right to campaign here. We never intended to disrupt the CM’s rally, but TVK is blatantly misusing administrative power. They will face public backlash soon,” she alleged.Police rounded up Karthika and detained more than 100 party workers. The agitators were taken to a private marriage hall in Uthiyur and subsequently released late in the evening.
