Ahmedabad: A security officer posted at Ahmedabad airport was allegedly assaulted by a group of men hours after he stopped a taxi at an entry checkpoint and questioned its driver. The officer sustained injuries to his left leg and right hand and required 13 stitches during treatment at Civil Hospital.According to a complaint lodged with Airport police on Saturday, the 31-year-old officer was on duty at the airport’s arrival entry checkpoint around 11.30pm on Friday when he stopped a taxi for inspection. As the vehicle was not carrying any passengers, he asked the driver to turn back.The driver allegedly argued with the officer and attempted to enter despite being stopped. The complainant told police that the driver threatened him and warned him against preventing the vehicle from proceeding.According to the complaint, three other taxi drivers later arrived at the spot and joined the argument. They allegedly threatened the officer, saying they would deal with him if all of them were not allowed entry.Fearing the situation could escalate, the officer called the police. However, the taxi drivers allegedly left before police personnel reached the spot.The officer alleged that the confrontation turned violent the next morning. Around 6.30am, while returning home after completing his night shift, he was allegedly followed by two men on a motorcycle near Nobel Crossroads.According to the complaint, one of the assailants struck him with a wooden stick, causing him to fall from his vehicle. The two men then allegedly beat him repeatedly on his left leg and right hand, abused him and threatened to kill him.Two of the officer’s colleagues who were passing through the area intervened and rescued him. Police were summoned and the injured officer was taken to Civil Hospital.Airport police have registered a case against six persons and are investigating both the alleged assault and the earlier altercation at the airport entry checkpoint.
