Ghaziabad: District administration has launched a month-long communicable disease control campaign from Oct 1 to curb the spread of dengue, malaria and other vector-borne infections. A Dastak campaign focusing on communicable diseases and encephalitis will be launched from Oct 12 to 31, officials said.As part of the preventive measures, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has deployed around 100 fogging machines, 10 sprinkler units and five power sprayer machines across vulnerable areas. The campaign is covering several localities, including parts of Mohan Nagar, Shalimar Garden, Vijay Nagar, Crossing Republic, Nandgram, Vasundhara, Khoda, Loni, Muradnagar and Dasna.The campaign was formally launched with an awareness rally that began at the Joint District Hospital in Sanjay Nagar. The chief medical officer flagged off the rally, which was attended by officials and representatives from the health, education, municipal and other departments, along with schoolchildren and Civil Defence cadets.Health officials urged residents to follow preventive measures, particularly against dengue, and eliminate stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed. Health department is also carrying out awareness activities as part of the campaign.According to current district data, Ghaziabad has reported 31 dengue cases and 21 malaria cases. Four cases of scrub typhus and three cases of leptospirosis have also been reported.The Dastak campaign, beginning Oct 12, will focus on early identification and prevention of communicable diseases and encephalitis, with health workers expected to undertake awareness and surveillance activities across the district.
