Woman swept away while trying to save child at waterfall
Belpahari police, a disaster management team and local residents launched rescue operations. Jhargram superintendent of police Manav Singla said efforts were under way to recover Priti.

Jhargram: A woman was swept away at Ghaghra waterfall in Jhargram district on Saturday after jumping into the water to save her seven-year-old son, who was rescued by his father.Priti Dutta, her husband Rajdeep Dutta and their child were part of a 36-member tourist group from Baruipur in South 24 Parganas. The group travelled by car from Kolkata and was staying at different hotels in Jhargram.The tourists arrived at Ghaghra waterfall, under Belpahari police station, around 12.30pm. According to reports, the child slipped and fell into the water while the family was returning after taking pictures near the waterfall.Priti jumped into the water, followed by Rajdeep, who works at a private company in Baruipur. Rajdeep, who knew how to swim, brought his son safely ashore but could not rescue his wife, who was carried away by the strong current.Belpahari police, a disaster management team and local residents launched rescue operations.
