NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday shared a video on X alleging that a Delhi Police personnel punched a detained GenZ protester in the face during the protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.The video, posted by AAP, was accompanied by the party’s criticism of the alleged conduct.“Delhi Policeman was seen punching a non-violent detained GenZ in the face. This is totally unacceptable and Aam Aadmi Party criticises this conduct of Delhi Police,” AAP said in its post.The video was shared amid protests in Delhi against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, with demonstrators seeking his resignation over issues linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Delhi protests see mass detentions

The protests intensified on Friday, with around 700 people detained in the national capital as protesters attempted to reach Jantar Mantar, according to Delhi Police.AAP leaders Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Sanjeev Jha were among those detained, along with student and youth activists.Police had denied permission for the Jantar Mantar gathering and imposed restrictions across the New Delhi district.Protesters were stopped at several locations, including Firoz Shah Road and Ashoka Road, while barricades were put up around the area.

Protesters detained as police tighten security

AAP and student groups had called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Gandhi Jayanti. Delhi Police had issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and stepped up security in the area.The Delhi Metro also closed entry and exit gates at multiple stations as part of the security arrangements, while internet services were reported to have been suspended in central Delhi.AAP leaders and other protesters have alleged that they were peacefully demonstrating and criticised the police action.AISA national president Neha Bora, after being detained, urged protesters to return to Jantar Mantar and continue the demonstration.The video shared by AAP shows the alleged incident involving the detained protester.
