Fazilka: Unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire outside the office of Jalalabad DSP Lovdeep Singh Gill on Thursday evening, triggering a swift police response that led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of an illegal pistol. Police said the incident was linked to an ongoing feud between youths from Thada Singh Wala village.According to reports, assailants riding three to four motorcycles arrived from the Lal Batti Chowk side and fired shots outside the office of DSP Lovdeep Singh Gill. Some of the youths allegedly entered the office premises after the firing.On receiving information about the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched an operation. Two youths were arrested shortly afterwards.DSP Gill said the firing was linked to an ongoing rivalry between two groups. An illegal .32-bore pistol was recovered from the accused, and police are investigating whether the weapon was used in the firing outside the DSP office.According to City Jalalabad SHO Mohit Dhawan, the firing took place around 7 pm on Thursday outside the office of DSP Gill. Acting swiftly, police teams apprehended two youths at the spot, while several others managed to escape.Gill, who also holds the additional charge of Jalalabad DSP (Headquarters), said the incident stemmed from a longstanding feud between groups led by Akashdeep and Kulwant, both residents of Thada Singh Wala village. The two groups had allegedly clashed the previous evening.“During the incident, Akashdeep and Sona Singh fled on a motorcycle, with members of the rival group chasing them. Their motorcycle skidded and they fell right outside my office. Gunshots were fired at the spot,” Gill said.He added that a pistol was dropped during the commotion, following which staff posted at the DSP office apprehended both men. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.The arrested accused were identified as Sona Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Amir Khas, and Akash, son of Paramjit Singh, from the Vairoka police station area. Police recovered an illegal .32-bore pistol from their possession and are probing whether it was the weapon used in the firing.SHO Dhawan said preliminary information suggested that one shot was fired. However, there were also reports that three rounds had been discharged, and this aspect was being verified.Police are interrogating the accused and investigating the motive behind the firing.
