Govt gives DHS charge to Dr Saleena Naik

Panaji: Goa govt has handed additional charge of director of health services (DHS) to Dr Saleena Naik, medical superintendent-cum-deputy director, with immediate effect and until further orders. An order issued by govt states that Naik will hold charge of the DHS post in addition to her existing duties. The move comes days after HC sought responses from the state govt, health secretary, director of health services, department of personnel and Dr Medha Salkar on a petition filed by Naik challenging the earlier decision to give Salkar charge of the DHS post.Naik had contended that, as deputy director and the senior-most eligible officer, she had been bypassed. Her advocate argued before the court that Salkar was serving as chief medical officer, a post that does not fall under the prescribed feeder cadre for appointment as DHS.The petition also pointed out that Salkar was due to retire shortly.
