GJU student hit by roadways bus battles for life on ventilator
Student leader Harikesh Dhanda said similar accidents had occurred outside GJU in the past and students were forced to get off buses on the road

Hisar: A Guru Jambheshwar University (GJU) student, who was critically injured after being run over by a roadways bus at Barwala Chungi on Tuesday, is undergoing treatment on a ventilator at a private hospital in Hisar. To protest against the accident, GJU students on Thursday blocked the main gate of Hisar bus stand, demanding a permanent stop outside the university, action against the bus driver and financial assistance for the injured student’s family.Student leader Harikesh Dhanda said similar accidents had occurred outside GJU in the past and students were forced to get off buses on the road. He said a designated bus stop outside the university was urgently needed . The injured victim, Vijeta, a resident of Sonipat and a second-year student of GJU’s psychology department, had got off a Rohtak depot roadways bus operating under the kilometre scheme at Barwala Chungi on Tuesday. According to eyewitnesses, she had just started walking when the driver began turning the bus. She came under the rear wheels, leaving half her body trapped beneath the bus.The driver and conductor allegedly left the bus at the spot after the accident. Vijeta remained trapped for around 10 minutes as passengers alerted police and tried to rescue her. A man then boarded the bus and moved it backwards, following which she was pulled out. She had by then lost consciousness.She was taken to the emergency department of the civil hospital and referred after initial treatment due to the severity of her condition. Her acquaintances subsequently shifted her to a private hospital, where she remains on ventilator support. Police have registered a case in connection with the accident.
