Gurgaon: A 35-year-old factory worker lost her right forearm after her hand got caught in a mustard oil extraction machine at a unit near Bhim Nagar Chowk on Sept 25.The victim, Sanju Devi, told police that she had been working at Richa Food Industry, operated by Richa Gupta, for the past five to six months. She alleged that she had repeatedly asked Gupta to hire another worker to operate the machinery because she did not have the required expertise or certification. However, Gupta allegedly continued assigning her the task.According to Sanju’s complaint, she was operating the machine and handling oil-cake material on Sept 25 when her hand got caught in it, resulting in the amputation of her right forearm. She ran towards the factory gate after the incident. People on the road took her to Optimus Hospital in Garhi Harsaru, where she was admitted for treatment.Police received information about the incident the same day and obtained her medico-legal certificate from the hospital. The MLC recorded an amputated right forearm injury. Police said doctors initially declared her unfit to give a statement.On Sept 29, after doctors certified her fit to make a statement, police recorded her account and received her complaint. Based on the complaint and medical records, they registered an FIR at City Gurgaon police station against Gupta under sections 125 (a) (rash or negligent act that endangers human life or the personal safety of others) and 289 (doing any rash or negligent act with machinery that endangers human life or causes injury) of BNS.“We have registered a case against the owner of the unit,” SI Munsiram said, adding that police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
