Rail services resume on Bairabi-Sairang section after rain-hit tracks restored

Silchar: Train services on Mizoram’s Bairabi-Sairang section resumed on Thursday evening after Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) completed restoration work on tracks damaged by heavy rain and an overflow of water and muck, railway sources said.Train movement on the section was suspended on Wednesday afternoon after heavy rainfall triggered the flow of water and muck onto the tracks between Kawnpui and Mualkhang, prompting NFR to halt services as a precautionary measure.Railway teams worked round the clock to clear debris, repair the affected stretch and carry out safety checks before allowing trains to resume operations on Thursday. The disruption affected several services connecting Sairang with Assam and other parts of the country. With the tracks restored and cleared for operations, services from Sairang began returning to normal from Thursday evening, bringing relief to passengers. The daily Bairabi-Silchar train service remained unaffected and operated as scheduled, sources said. The Bairabi-Sairang railway line provides vital rail connectivity to the Aizawl region, linking Mizoram with Assam and the rest of the country’s railway network.
