Kolkata: The state health department has recalled the Feb 15, 2024 order, which allowed Avik De to study PG in surgery on service quota. “De cannot continue the PG course,” said a health official.During the protest against the RG Kar rape and murder, De was repeatedly described as a mastermind of threat culture and irregularities at medical colleges. He was enrolled as a PG trainee at IPGMER in 2024 in a seat, reserved for medical students who had completed their three-year rural services. On a BJP govt’s order for a probe, a panel found De was not eligible for the seat and he was assigned the seat by bypassing protocol.
