Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Nursing Council (GNC) has unanimously elected Dr M M Prabhakar of Ahmedabad as its new president and Iqbal Kadiwala of Surat as vice-president at the first meeting of its newly elected members.The meeting was held in Ahmedabad following the completion of legal formalities by the state govt and the law department, along with the publication of the official gazette notifying the newly elected council members.The meeting was chaired by Dr Anil Nayak, president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).During the election process, announcements inviting nominations for the posts of president and vice-president were made three times. However, no other members came forward to contest either position.Senior council members subsequently proposed Dr Prabhakar’s name for the post of president. Prabhakar, who serves as medical superintendent at Sumandeep campus in Ahmedabad, has previously held key positions, including director of health (medical education) and superintendent of Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.Kadiwala’s name was proposed for the post of vice-president and was also unanimously approved. He previously served as assistant nursing superintendent at Surat Civil Hospital.
