Dhubri: Seven passengers, including two children and several women, were critically injured when a battery-operated three-wheeler overturned after hitting a divider on the under-construction NH-127(B) at Kathalguri under Tamarhat police station in Dhubri district at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday.The accident occurred while the e-rickshaw was travelling along the highway. According to preliminary information, the driver tried to avoid a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction, causing the vehicle to lose control, hit the divider and overturn.The injured were identified as Shafikul Islam, Shahida Bibi, Ayesha Bibi and Jorina Bibi. The two injured children were identified as Shajida Khatun and Majoni Khatun. Police had not confirmed the identity of the seventh passenger.Local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured. They were later taken to RNB Hospital in Gossaigaon, where they were admitted for treatment. Police personnel from Grahampara police station in Kokrajhar district also reached the site and took stock of the situation.A Tamarhat police station officer told TOI that the accident appeared to have occurred while the e-rickshaw driver was trying to avoid the motorcycle.“Preliminary information suggests that the e-rickshaw swerved to avoid a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction and subsequently hit the divider and overturned. All the injured were shifted to RNB Hospital in Gossaigaon for treatment. We reached the spot and are conducting further inquiries into the circumstances of the accident,” the officer said.The injured passengers are residents of Joyma village under Gossaigaon.The under-construction stretch of NH-127(B) has witnessed several accidents in recent times, raising concerns among local residents about road safety.
