Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has ranked first in the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and fifth in the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), following a sharp reduction in the pendency of cybercrime-related matters.Through regular monitoring, reviews and coordination with banks and other stakeholders, the cybercrime unit has brought down MRM pendency from around 32% to 4.31%, while GRM pendency has fallen to 2.24%.Under the MRM, the unit has disposed of 244 of the 255 matters received, recording a disposal rate of 95.6%, with only 11 pending. Police have also ordered the restoration of Rs 88.6 lakh to eligible victims through the MRM portal.The MRM facilitates the restoration or release of funds put on hold or marked as lien in bank accounts in cases of cyber-enabled financial fraud reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), in accordance with the prescribed standard operating procedure.The GRM, meanwhile, deals with grievances of account holders whose bank accounts have been frozen, put on hold or marked under lien while police trace the money trail in cybercrime cases. Police said the decline in pendency was the result of focused scrutiny and speedy disposal of such grievances.Officials attributed the improvement to continuous monitoring, regular reviews of pending matters, close supervision and coordination with banks and other stakeholders.Police said both MRM and GRM matters would continue to be monitored to ensure timely disposal, restoration of funds to eligible victims and prompt relief to citizens affected by cybercrime.
