Noida: A 32-year-old vegetable vendor was killed after a speeding Scorpio rammed into his handcart from behind in Noida’s Sector 39 area late Monday night, police said.The deceased, Mangal Singh, was returning home after finishing his day’s work when the accident occurred near Rcube Mall.According to police, Singh moved from Bahjoi in Sambhal district to Barola with his family and earned a living selling vegetables from a handcart.The impact threw Singh several metres onto the road, leaving him critically injured. The collision also severely damaged his vegetable cart. People in the vicinity rushed to the spot after hearing the collision and found Singh lying seriously injured on the road. They took him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Police were informed of the accident and arrived at the scene soon after. The body was sent for a postmortem, after which it was handed over to the family for the last rites.Police said Singh’s brother, Somveer, lodged a complaint following the accident, based on which an FIR was registered against the unidentified driver under relevant sections of the BNS.Investigators are now examining details of the vehicle involved in the crash and trying to trace the driver with the help of its registration number. Police are also examining the circumstances leading to the collision and whether the Scorpio was speeding.The accident briefly disrupted traffic in the area because a crowd gathered at the spot following the collision.Police said further action would be taken after the driver is identified and the circumstances of the accident are established.
