Jaisalmer: A 27-year-old POCSO accused attempted suicide by slitting his throat with a paper cutter during questioning in front of the ASP at the Special Investigation Unit for Crimes Against Women (SIUCAW) cell office in Barmer, police said.Personnel present at the SIUCAW overpowered him and rushed him to the district hospital in a blood-soaked condition. After receiving treatment, he was brought back to the office and is stated to be stable.Barmer ASP Nitesh Arya said a POCSO case is registered against the accused at the women’s police station, and the matter is being investigated by SIUCAW ASP Prabhuram. “The accused was arrested on Wednesday evening and brought to the Women’s Crime Investigation Office for questioning Thursday,” he said. During the process, the accused picked up a paper cutter placed on the table and slit his throat. The officer said the incident occurred while his fingerprints were being taken and that he did not sustain serious injuries. An inquiry has been initiated to examine possible negligence.
