Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh BJP on Sunday criticised Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against the Election Commission of India (ECI).Addressing the media at the party headquarters in Itanagar, BJP state spokesperson Tobom Dai urged political leaders to verify facts before questioning constitutional institutions.Dai objected to Gandhi’s Sept 24 statement seeking chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged differences within the commission regarding Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Referring to ECI’s clarification issued on Sept 26, Dai said the full Commission — comprising Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi — unanimously approved all decisions related to the SIR process.“It has become a habit for Rahul Gandhi and Congress to target constitutional institutions whenever they face political defeat, while staying silent when the outcomes favour them,” Dai said, adding, “When decisions were taken unanimously by the full commission, the demand for the CEC’s resignation lacks any factual basis.”Dai said ECI’s statement addressed issues including correspondence with the cabinet secretary and procedures related to Form 6. He said public discussion on democratic institutions should be based on official records rather than unverified political claims.Arunachal BJP president Kaling Moyong and senior MP Tapir Gao also issued social media statements calling for respect for constitutional mechanisms and electoral mandates.The state BJP said voter-roll revisions and other electoral processes are governed by legal frameworks and should be discussed responsibly and transparently.
