Gorakhpur: Those travelling between Gorakhpur and Maharajganj will have a new option in a double-decker AC electric bus to begin operations on the route from Sept 28. The service will be launched after a successful trial run conducted on Friday.Officials said the addition of the electric double-decker bus is expected to improve passenger capacity while offering a comfortable and affordable travel experience. A similar AC electric double-decker bus is already operating on the Gorakhpur–Kasya route.With three double-decker buses added to the Gorakhpur depot fleet, the transport corporation aims to cater to growing passenger demand and promote environment-friendly public transport. The buses are expected to reduce fuel consumption and support govt’s push for cleaner mobility solutions.Roadways officials said the new service would not only ease the daily commute but also help boost tourism in the region by improving connectivity.The Gorakhpur depot currently operates around 20 AC electric buses on routes including Ayodhya, Varanasi, Tamkuhiraj, Salempur and Sonauli. In the city, 25 electric buses are already in service, while another 25 are expected to be added soon. State govt also approved 150 air-conditioned electric buses for urban transport services across designated areas.
