Kolkata: A day after Bengal BJP seniors met national president Nitin Nabin in New Delhi ahead of his visit to the state, the party on Friday carried out a major organisational reshuffle, appointing new heads for its women’s and youth wings and changing presidents in seven organisational districts. The changes reflected an attempt by BJP to strike a balance between north and south Bengal.State secretary Sharbari Mukherjee has been replaced by Saumitra Khan, while four other general secretaries have been retained. Mukherjee had faced controversy during the recent Jadavpur University fracas.Anjana Basu, a Bengali television actor who joined BJP ahead of the 2021 assembly polls, has been appointed president of the party’s Mahila Morcha, replacing Falguni Patra, who has been made a state vice-president. Basu was also recently appointed an advisory member of the Central Board of Film Certification.Amta MLA Amit Samanta has replaced state minister Indranil Khan as Yuva Morcha president. Khan, who won the 2026 assembly election and later joined the state cabinet, had been heading the youth wing.Jagannath Chatterjee, Agnimitra Paul, Dipak Barman and Shankar Ghosh have been removed from their organisational posts after becoming ministers, in line with BJP’s “one person, one post” policy. Chatterjee, Paul and Barman were state vice-presidents, while Ghosh was a state secretary.Several functionaries associated with Sunil Bansal’s booth-strengthening campaign have also been given organisational responsibilities. Rampada Das has been appointed state vice-president, while Nilanjan Adhikari and Shankar Chakraborty have been made state secretaries. Prabal Raha, a former member of Bansal’s team, is already a state vice-president.The party has also appointed new presidents in seven organisational districts. Nripen Biswas will head Bongaon, Dipankar Chakraborty Barasat, Shashi Singh Serampore, Prashanta Digar Arambagh, Saumen Tiwari Midnapore, Ashis Pal Burdwan and Manik Roy Katwa.
