Youth accusing munshi of harassing him gulps poisonous substance in police station in BarnalaPic: Jobanpreet SinghNeel Kamal/TNNBathinda: The son of a former sarpanch of Bhattal village in Barnala district allegedly attempted suicide inside Dhanaula police station on Thursday, accusing the station’s munshi of harassing him over a copy of the DDR related to his car catching fire on Sept 11.Jobanpreet Singh is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Barnala and is out of danger. Barnala SSP Mohd Sarfaraz Alam said police had not registered an FIR as they were yet to record Jobanpreet’s statement.“We are checking what made Jobanpreet gulp some poisonous substance. Police are investigating the allegations levelled by him in a video clip. If any police employee is found guilty of harassing him, appropriate action will be taken,” Alam said.In a video clip uploaded from the police station in the morning, Jobanpreet alleged that his Maruti Swift was gutted in a fire caused by a short circuit on Sept 11. He said he reported the incident at Dhanaula police station and sought a copy of the DDR for insurance purposes.He alleged that the munshi refused to give him the DDR copy and demanded money. He also claimed the munshi told him police suspected he had deliberately burnt the car to make an insurance claim.Jobanpreet said in the video that he was unable to face any more harassment and was consuming poison. Bhattal is the native village of former chief minister and Congress functionary Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.
