JS Bhupalpally: BRS leaders on Thursday alleged that Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) had coal stocks sufficient for only four days and accused Congress govt of creating an artificial power shortage.Former ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Satyavathi Rathod, former MLAs Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and Thatikonda Rajaiah, and Jangaon MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy visited KTPP at Chelpur village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district as part of a BRS protest. They staged a demonstration outside the plant gate and enquired about coal arrivals and power generation.KTPP chief engineer Prakash Rao told the leaders that the plant had coal sufficient for four days and that authorities were following state govt directions on power generation.Speaking to the media after inspecting the plant, Venkataramana Reddy alleged that coal was not being supplied to Telangana because of dues of ₹52,000 crore, although state govt records showed the availability of 40 lakh tonnes.He alleged that Singareni Collieries Company authorities were selling high-quality coal to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and other states while failing to supply Telangana’s power projects.KTPP required 5,000 tonnes of coal daily but was receiving only 1,500 tonnes, he said. Venkataramana Reddy also alleged that govt policy had led to the shutdown of the Yadadri, Bhadradri and Bhupalpally power plants, creating an artificial shortage.
