Hisar: Two brothers were brutally attacked at their home in Patel Nagar allegedly for refusing to pay a monthly extortion amount of ₹3 lakh demanded by a group of local youths. According to the victims’ family, five to six men armed with sharp weapons stormed into the house and assaulted both brothers on Wednesday. CCTV footage of the attack has since surfaced. One of the injured brothers is said to be in critical condition and has been admitted to the ICU. Police have recorded statements of both victims and launched an investigation. The victims have been identified as Sunil (40) and Sonu (38), residents of Patel Nagar. They run a grocery store near their home. In his statement to police, Sonu alleged that a man named Kartik and his associates were harassing them for the past three to four months, pressuring them to pay ₹3 lakh every month. He further alleged that the accused had threatened to kill them if they refused to pay.According to Sonu, the two brothers were sitting in their car around 10 pm on Wednesday when five to six youths surrounded and attacked them. He alleged he was struck on the head and hand with the gandasa and sticks, while his brother Sunil was attacked with a knife and the gandasa on his abdomen. Sunil, in a critical condition, was rushed to the ICU. The family said the accused had called on Wednesday evening as well, pressuring them to pay up. Sonu’s wife said her husband had told the callers that they did not have such a large sum — shortly after which the attack took place.CCTV footage that has emerged shows five to six young men, allegedly armed, entering the house and assaulting the two brothers. An elderly woman is seen in the video attempting to stop the attackers. Visuals also show some of the accused standing outside in the lane with weapons after the assault, while a broken door and shattered glass are visible outside the house. Sunil’s wife alleged that the attackers assaulted both her husband and brother-in-law with sticks and sharp-edged weapons. The victims’ family further claimed that the accused already have criminal cases registered against them — a claim police say is being verified.Police said statements of both brothers have been recorded and action has been initiated against the accused, who are expected to be arrested soon.
