MUMBAI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licence of Gallops restaurant, located inside the Royal Western India Turf Club at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, with immediate effect over multiple food safety and hygiene violations.During an inspection, FDA officials found ice contaminated with blood and ketchup stains from non-vegetarian food items inside a refrigerator, along with raw materials stored in torn and damaged packaging. Inspectors also recorded grease accumulation in the kitchen, deteriorating walls, inadequately covered drainage and cockroach traps, live cockroaches and ants, and water stagnation.The restaurant also did not have records of annual medical examinations and vaccinations of its food handlers, officials said. The violations were recorded under Schedule 4 of food safety regulations.Gallops, which has operated for decades, is located within the heritage premises of the Royal Western India Turf Club and is known for its racecourse setting.In a separate case, FDA officials found alleged adulteration at Gurukrupa Dairy Products in Malad (East). Refined sunflower oil, vanaspati (hydrogenated fat) and branded ghee were allegedly being blended in specialised boilers to prepare counterfeit white and yellow ghee. Rats and cockroaches were also found at the premises, officials said.FDA also took action against Gufran Seekh Corner in Versova and Dreamer Hospitality and Mirari in Bandra West over hygiene-related violations. Gufran Seekh Corner was found operating without a valid food licence.
