Aizawl: Six people, arrested for allegedly killing a 29‑year‑old Assam Regiment soldier, were sent to judicial custody, police said on Tuesday.The incident occurred near Bualpui village in north Mizoram’s Kolasib district on Sunday evening. They were sent to judicial custody at Kolasib District Prison and Correctional Centre.The six accused include a woman, Zoremthangi (38). They have been booked under Sections 103(1), 115 and 3(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, read with Section 6(2) of the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition Act, 2019, the officials said.The five male accused are Emmanuel Lalchhanhima (27); Lalhundika (29); Lalnunfima (26); David Remruatpuia (18); and Malsawmtluanga (24). All six are residents of Hmar Veng locality in Kawnpui town.Two other accused, who are minors, are not in police or judicial custody and have been placed in the custody of district Juvenile Justice Board, officials said.Assam Regiment soldier Zakaria Lalhriattluanga was attacked near Bualpui village along NH-306 shortly after arriving in Mizoram from his posting in Jammu & Kashmir. He was travelling to his native New Builum village in a truck driven by a friend who had picked him up from Lengpui airport near Aizawl on Sunday.According to reports, the incident followed an altercation allegedly triggered by the poor condition of the road near Coffee Board’s coffee plantation area. Two trucks were reportedly unable to pass each other, leading to an argument between their drivers.The youths allegedly intervened and attacked the soldier’s friend. Lalhriattluanga was reportedly killed when he tried to help him.A post-mortem examination was conducted on the soldier. He was buried on Monday after a funeral with full military honours.
