Jaipur: An 80-year-old woman died after her 25-year-old grandson slit her throat at the family home in Housing Board Colony in the city’s Bhatta Basti area Tuesday afternoon, police said.The accused has been arrested and is being questioned to establish the motive behind the killing.DCP (North) Karan Sharma said neighbours, who saw the accused walking on the porch with bloodstained hands and clothes, first alerted his father Pramod.A govt school teacher, Pramod reached home to discover his mother, Vimla Devi, lying in a pool of blood on the bed with a deep wound on her neck. He found his son Pulkit, as neighbours had described him – with blood on his hand and clothes.Police said Pulkit had returned home from a coaching centre and was alone with his grandmother at the time of the incident. When police reached the house, he reportedly claimed that he had no knowledge of what happened to his grandmother.He was initially detained for questioning before being formally placed under arrest.Police said Pulkit revealed during interrogation that his grandmother used to scold and beat him. Investigators, however, said the exact motive behind the crime remains to be established.Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh Shekhawat said an examination of the crime scene suggested there had been a struggle before Vimla Devi was killed. Apart from the deep wound on her neck, she also had injuries on her hands and fingers, which indicate defensive wounds, Shekhawat added.Investigators believe Pulkit returned home when his grandmother was taking an afternoon nap.
