Kolkata: Former MLA Humayun Kabir, a Mamata Banerjee aide, was left with a bloodied face, and three others were injured after Mamata Trinamool Congress and BJP workers clashed in Mukundapur on Tuesday.Kabir alleged that BJP workers assaulted him outside Purba Jadavpur PS, broke his glasses and snatched his purse. The BJP denied this, claiming Trinamool workers attacked a party worker filming the protest.Among the injured were KMC councillor Vasundhara Goswami and Mamata Trinamool IT cell office-bearer Upasana Chowdhury. Goswami alleged attackers targeted women, hurling bricks and eggs.The clash began around 5 pm when Mamata Trinamool workers gathered outside the party office. The party alleged BJP supporters attacked its rally en route to East Jadavpur Police Station to submit a petition over attacks and vandalism. Mamata Trinamool alleged attackers used helmets and lathis.The confrontation began with chants of “chor! chor!” directed at Mamata Trinamool Congress workers.The dispute escalated into a scuffle. Onlookers said three people were injured, two requiring hospitalisation.“I have served in the police myself, but I have never witnessed an incident where cops stood as mute spectators right outside a police station,” Kabir later told reporters.Mamata Trinamool MP Dola Sen said, “We could not enter enter the police station to meet our colleagues, including the injured. We repeatedly requested senior officers to intervene, but no action was taken.”BJP rejected the allegations, accusing Trinamool workers of an attack. It said a worker was filming the Trinamool programme when he was confronted and assaulted.BJP spokesperson Debajit Sarkar said, “A BJP worker was passing by the rally when he was grabbed and beaten.” He accused Mamata Trinamool of making false allegations.BJP MLA from Jadavpur Sarbari Mukherjee said, “This is purely an internal fight between the Mamata Banerjee faction and the Ritabrata faction of Trinamool. Both want to take control of the party offices. Most importantly, these party offices are illegal; I have received complaints from several residents regarding this. Our members did not attack anyone; rather, they were attacked today when these factions were fighting.”
