Dhubri: More than 100 passengers were forced into shallow water after their boat developed a major leak and began sinking in Gangadhar River near Gumaghat ferry ghat in Golakganj on Monday.The boat was travelling from Tamarhat to Kathaltali when its bottom reportedly cracked, and water started gushing in. Passengers got down in knee-deep water amid panic and confusion.A section of the boat submerged. An e-rickshaw and more than 20 motorcycles were reportedly on board.Residents alleged that the ferry service was operating without following proper safety norms. They claimed the boat had neither a marine engine nor life jackets for passengers.Police and authorities were informed, following which a team from Tamarhat police station brought the passengers to the riverbank.
