Bengaluru: In a historic milestone for Indian theatre, the acclaimed Kannada political satire ‘Mukhyamantri’ will stage its landmark 900th show at Ravindra Kalakshetra on Sept 26, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.Directed by veteran theatre personality BV Rajaram, the legendary play has continuously enthralled audiences for an extraordinary 46 years, retaining its spot as one of the longest-running and most impactful productions in regional theatre history.Leading the cast once again is veteran actor Mukhyamantri Chandru, whose iconic portrayal of the protagonist over four decades earned him his stage moniker and legendary status among theatre enthusiasts.The play revolves around the ruthless political manoeuvres of Krishna Dwaipayana Kaushal (wittily abbreviated as KD Kaushal), the chief minister of a fictional state. As upcoming elections, party rivalries, and internal dissent threaten to strip him of his post, Kaushal desperately schemes and exploits every systemic loophole to retain his grip on power.
