Panaji: Differences have emerged within Goa Forward Party (GFP) over its alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with senior members calling for talks with Congress to bring opposition parties together ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. GFP president Vijai Sardesai, however, said on Monday that no decision to change the party’s alliance had been taken and cautioned members against speaking to the media without authorisation.AAP and GFP announced their “Goa First” pre-poll alliance on Sept 13. Congress has since kept its doors open to GFP and called for opposition parties seeking to defeat BJP to come together.GFP senior member Prashant Naik said the party should consider Congress’s offer, citing what he described as the public’s desire for a united opposition.“People of Goa want all opposition parties to come together and defeat BJP. In between there was some political development wherein GFP announced its alliance with AAP. If we look at the general mood of people of the state, it appears that people want all opposition to come together. If all opposition do not come together then people feel that it would be difficult to defeat BJP,” Naik said.“We also have the same view that BJP has to be sent home, and we are ready to take all steps to provide relief to the people of the state from BJP. Considering AICC Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare has made a statement that Congress doors are open for alliance, we demand that all opposition should come together and defeat BJP,” he said.Naik said talks with Congress had been kept in abeyance and that the party would soon take a decision. “If we want to talk with Congress on alliance then we will make quick decisions,” he said.Sardesai, however, said GFP continued to stand by the “Goa First” decision and that there had been no rethink on the alliance.“A lot of parties reacted differently. Our party members reacted too. I have told them clearly that nobody should talk unless he has been authorised to speak. We stand by the decision of Goa First and we have not rethought our decision. We are busy with Ganesh Chaturthi festival,” Sardesai said.He said any decision on an alliance would be officially announced by the party.“Nothing has happened. Let us not speculate. As far as speculations are concerned, I don’t want to comment on any speculations. I will comment if there is something concrete. At the moment there is nothing,” Sardesai said.
