Guwahati: A group of around 100 people allegedly vandalised a Sonapur dhaba after being denied alcohol on Saturday night, police said.The incident occurred at the New City Dhaba, located 300-400 metres from Zubeen Kshetra, where people gathered to mark Zubeen Garg’s first death anniversary.“We received a complaint from residents about a huge commotion at the dhaba. When we arrived, the entire place was in shambles. Windows and kitchen doors were broken, and things were scattered everywhere. People involved in the incident were drunk. We had to drive them away with sticks,” said a Sonapur police officer.Police said the group visited the dhaba seeking alcohol. When the staff refused to serve them, they allegedly damaged windows, kitchen doors and other property.The staff said the establishment stopped serving alcohol after 9 pm.“There were five of them at first. Their acquaintances arrived later. Around 100 people gathered at the dhaba. We have filed a complaint regarding the incident,” a dhaba employee said.Police are examining the CCTV footage to identify those involved. A case will be registered after preliminary investigation.
