Rajkot: A 62-year-old scooter rider died and two others were injured after a tempo carrying DJ equipment allegedly went out of control while descending a bridge at Parevadi Chowk in Rajkot on Sunday afternoon.The deceased, Arun Shah, a resident of Gujarat Housing Board quarters near Umiya Chowk, was riding through Parevadi Chowk around 2.30pm when the tempo hit his scooter. He suffered critical injuries and died before he could be shifted to hospital.The tempo, travelling from Bhagwatipara overbridge towards Kothariya Naka, subsequently crashed into an autorickshaw. The driver Irfan Tamim (38) and passenger Paresh Kundal (40) sustained injuries and were taken to civil hospital.B Division police detained the tempo driver, Nayan Parmar. During questioning, Parmar reportedly claimed that the vehicle’s brakes had failed.Investigators are examining whether a brake failure caused the crash or whether another factor led to the loss of control. The vehicle will undergo technical inspection and police are awaiting the forensic report.
