Hisar: Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday accused the BJP govt of pushing the state towards unemployment, crime, drug abuse, corruption and mounting debt. Addressing a block-level Congress convention in Uklana, Hooda said Congress govt between 2005 and 2014 had made Haryana a leading state in per capita income, investment, job creation, govt employment, recognition for sportspersons, remunerative prices for farmers and women’s safety.Hooda claimed that Haryana’s total debt, which stood at around Rs 70,000 crore from the state’s formation in 1966 until 2014, had risen to Rs 5.5 lakh crore under BJP govt. He questioned what the money had been spent on, alleging that there had been no major expansion of Metro network, new railway line, major project, medical college or major educational institution during the period.He alleged that corruption cases were surfacing across sectors, including recruitment and banking. “The question is where did these thousands of crores go?” Hooda asked, alleging that the answer could be found in the scams being reported under BJP govt. Hooda said two years had passed since the last assembly election, and Congress workers now needed to focus on the road ahead and intensify their campaign against the govt. Supporters at the convention raised their hands in response to his appeal to back the party.On farmers, Hooda alleged that BJP had promised to double their income, but had instead increased input costs. He said farmers were struggling to get remunerative prices for their produce and even faced difficulties in getting fertilisers.
