Ahmedabad: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city crime branch has filed an FIR against six persons for allegedly threatening a 58-year-old businesswoman from Usmanpura and her family over a financial transaction involving Rs 19 crore.The woman also alleges that some of her associates were kept in confinement at hotels in Mumbai and that the six continued to demand money despite allegedly receiving the principal amount and the compound interest.The woman, who runs a business in Ahmedabad, approached the EOW on Thursday, alleging that the people in question had become involved in a series of financial and property transactions with her family from Feb 2024 onwards.According to the FIR, one of the six persons was operating as an agent/dealer in bulk property transactions, including deals involving flats, shops and houses through barter arrangements.The complaint states that he had secured Rs 12 crore from two builders. When the builders allegedly refused to pay interest, an arrangement was made under which the builders were to pay Rs 5 crore each to the agent, while the woman was to pay the remaining Rs 7 crore along with interest, taking the claimed amount to Rs 19 crore.The FIR alleges that funds were subsequently routed through several bank accounts linked to the six people and their associates. Transactions involving three companies allegedly accounted for Rs 3.3 crore. The woman further alleges that vehicles worth Rs 1.6 crore were obtained through barter deals and around Rs 10 crore was taken in cash through angadiya channels and accounting adjustments.The most serious allegation relates to nine cheques of Rs 1 crore each allegedly obtained from the woman’s son under death threats. Three cheques were deposited but returned, the FIR states.The six allegedly issued death threats and sent abusive messages over phone and WhatsApp while demanding further payments.The EOW has registered the case for alleged cheating involving large sums, extortion, criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement, criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, and violations of money-lending laws.
