Ahmedabad: Heavy rain across Ahmedabad, particularly between 8am and 10am, flooded roads and jammed traffic. Floodwaters entered residential societies in Vejalpur and Memnagar, among other areas.Between 8am and 2pm, the city recorded an average rainfall of 2.88 inches (73.2mm), prompting complaints to AMC about 18 waterlogged junctions. Complaints on inundated roads and housing societies totalled 235.Uprooted trees spurred 35 complaints.Downpours hit Sarkhej, Vasna, Navrangpura, Kalupur, Lambha, Memnagar, and Naranpura.Sarkhej recorded the highest rainfall in the 8am-2pm period, 133mm. Other significant rainfall figures included 108mm in Maktampura, 112mm in Bakrol, 111mm in Navrangpura, 107.5mm in Vasna, and 93mm in Lambha.Areas adjacent to the Sabarmati River — such as Navrangpura, Vasna, Paldi, Kalupur, Sarkhej, and Maktampura — were hit hardest.At 8am on Friday, the water level at Vasna barrage stood at 135 feet, which prevented stormwater from draining out of nearby areas.To quickly lower the water level, authorities opened 14 barrage gates simultaneously.
