Ponda: Uddhav Balasaheb Koli, 25, a resident of Pandharpur, Maharashtra, died on the spot at Kerye-Khandepar, about 4km from Ponda on the Goa-Karnataka national highway, on Friday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a broken-down container truck.Abhishek Bhimrao Dhavre, 25, also from Pandharpur, who was riding pillion, was critically injured and shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC) hospital at Bambolim for treatment.Ponda police said the Rajasthan-registered container truck had broken down while travelling towards Ponda and was being repaired. The motorcycle was also proceeding towards Ponda when it rammed into the stationary container truck.Koli, who was wearing a helmet, died on the spot after his head struck the container. Local sources said the truck driver had failed to take necessary safety precautions.The impact killed the motorcyclist instantly, while the pillion rider sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the hospital. Ponda police are conducting further investigations.A case of a motor vehicle accident was being registered at Ponda police station on Friday evening.
