Gurgaon: A city court has granted bail to a 27-year-old chartered accountant (CA), who was accused of blackmailing another CA, observing that the investigation has not established that he sent any objectionable video to the latter’s mother or fiancé.The court also noted that, according to the prosecution case, the two had been in a relationship for more than six years. The CA had allegedly forced physical relations on the woman — repeatedly — extorted Rs 20-25 lakh from her and threatened to circulate intimate videos. The court said its observations were confined to the bail application and would not affect the merits of the trial.The complainant alleged that in Feb 2026, the man pressured her to marry him and after she resisted, he circulated a private video to her mother, resulting in the cancellation of her scheduled marriage.The prosecution relied on an audio transcript in which he was allegedly heard abusing and threatening the CA and argued that his release could enable him to pressure the complainant or influence witnesses.On Wednesday, additional sessions judge Vinay Sharma noted that the investigation had yielded only one objectionable video and that it did not support the allegation that the complainant had been blackmailed to establish physical relations. Sharma, while granting bail to the accused, noted that the complainant was his relative and both were CAs.The FIR, registered at Sushant Lok police station on July 25 under sections 376(2)(N), 323, 384 and 506 of IPC and sections 66E, 67 and 67A of IT Act, alleged that the man established physical relations with the complainant in Uttarakhand and subsequently blackmailed her with an obscene video.She alleged that between 2021 and 2023, he continued the relationship and extracted around Rs 20-25 lakh from her. She also accused him of accessing her mobile, WhatsApp and email accounts and threatening to leak private videos.Appearing for the accused, advocate Narender Kumar Jain argued that the case was based on a consensual relationship and that his client had been falsely implicated. He pointed to photographs of the two travelling together and financial transactions, submitting that the complainant had transferred about Rs 70-75 lakh to the man while he had transferred about Rs 20 lakh to her. He also cited an earlier complaint filed by the woman before Women police station, Charkhi Dadri, which was subsequently withdrawn.Public prosecutor Abhishek, assisted by the complainant’s counsel Ankur Goyal, opposed bail, alleging that the man had exploited the complainant and repeatedly threatened her with objectionable videos.Granting bail, the court imposed conditions against repeating the offence, influencing witnesses or leaving the country without permission.
