Aizawl: The Mizoram govt on Thursday launched programmes for the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign, a community cleanliness drive, in Aizawl and other district headquarters.The campaign is being jointly organised by the state urban development and poverty alleviation (UD&PA) and public health engineering departments.Addressing an event in Aizawl, state UD&PA minister K Sapdanga said a recent study ranked Aizawl among the nine cleanest state capitals in the country and 35th among 476 big cities. “Our state capital is regarded as the most exemplary in the northeast region,” Sapdanga said.He urged students and youths to promote cleanliness and health awareness among their parents and grandparents.As part of the launching of the cleanliness drive for the community, a special drive for students called ‘Swachh Paathshala: Yuva for Swachhata’ will be undertaken.As part of the campaign, a special cleanliness drive for students called ‘Swachh Paathshala: Yuva for Swachhata’ will be undertaken.The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign will continue from Sept 17 to Oct 2, and include activities such as promotion of the reduce, reuse and recycle (RRR) initiative, wall painting and thematic art competitions, cleanliness drives at public places, public awareness campaigns, sports events and programmes for the safety and welfare of sanitation workers.
