Footbridge at La Lagune on Golf Course Road in Gurgaon gets GMDA nod
The approval follows a direction from the district administration in Jan last year to assess the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing near La Lagune

Gurgaon: GMDA has approved the structural design of a proposed foot overbridge near La Lagune on Golf Course Road after IIT Delhi vetted it. This has cleared the way for DLF Foundation to take up construction of the pedestrian facility under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.GMDA had granted in-principle approval for the footbridge in April last year following repeated accidents, including fatal crashes, near the La Lagune stretch. DLF subsequently submitted the structural design to the authority, which was sent to IIT Delhi for vetting. “We have now approved the design. The agency can proceed with the project,” a GMDA official said. The approval follows a direction from the district administration in Jan last year to assess the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing near La Lagune, in addition to the footbridge already constructed at Chakkarpur and three others proposed at Bristol Chowk, Time Centre and Paras Downtown. With La Lagune and Time Centre only around 200 metres apart, officials found it impractical to construct a footbridge at both locations. The footbridge was initially proposed near Time Centre on Golf Course Road. Last year, DLF sought permission to shift it to La Lagune in Sector 54, where pedestrian movement and road-crossing requirements were considered more pressing. The latest development comes after a series of efforts to improve pedestrian safety at the stretch. In April 2024, the district road safety committee directed GMDA to construct a table-top crossing near La Lagune after a fatal accident. The project was estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh and a tender was floated in June.Work started in Oct but was halted soon after following an objection from DLF. Videos of vehicles bouncing over the unfinished structure subsequently surfaced on social media, triggering public criticism. GMDA completed the crossing on one carriageway with markings and signage by Oct 29.The authority, however, decided to temporarily halt the project in Nov. In Feb 2025, DLF dismantled the table-top crossing.Pedestrian safety concerns on the stretch have persisted. According to district administration data, 10 accidents were reported near La Lagune between 2023 and 2025.The proposed footbridge is part of GMDA’s plan to improve pedestrian safety along the 16-lane Golf Course Road. In 2020, the authority had planned five footbridges along the road following multiple accidents. The number was later reduced to four after residents of Vipul Belmonte objected to the proposed location of one footbridge near their condominium. The location of another proposed footbridge was subsequently shifted from near MPD Tower to Chakkarpur village due to encroachment-related issues. The footbridge near Chakkarpur became functional in Nov 2024.
