In comparison, the first phase of polling across 162 urban local bodies on Sept 9 recorded 76.42%, while the second phase across 147 bodies on Sept 11 saw 70.68%.Although no major violence was reported, two journalists covering repolling in Kota’s Ward 87 were allegedly assaulted and their phones snatched near booth 99 in Mahaveer Nagar. Colleagues staged a dharna at the police station. Police registered a case, recorded statements and ordered a medical examination. “Efforts are underway to trace the accused,” DSP Uday Singh stated.

The repoll covered five booths of four wards in Jaipur Municipal Corporation, three of three in Kota Municipal Corporation, one of one in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation and one booth of one ward in Kota district’s Suket municipality.Four out of Jaipur’s five wards reported comparatively higher numbers than the city’s original polling day turnout of 63.55%.While Ward 34 recorded the lowest participation at 61.24%, Ward 25 posted the highest participation among the four wards at 81.63%. Wards 9 and 18 recorded 73.22% and 73% respectively.

In Kota Municipal Corporation, the three repolling wards witnessed a comparatively better turnout than the corporation’s original turnout of 67.66%. Ward 11 recorded 67.51%, Ward 44 registered 81.34%, and Ward 87 saw 79.02%. Jodhpur Municipal Corporation’s Ward 50 recorded 72.32%, marginally higher than the city’s earlier turnout of 71.95%. Suket municipality’s Ward 4 reported 77.15%, against the municipality’s overall 83.98%.Election officials said the repolling was ordered after several 13-year-old electronic voting machines developed faults during the counting on Sept 14. In these cases, the votes locked in faulty machines exceeded the victory margins between leading candidates, making fresh polling necessary.
