CHENNAI: A transgender woman, found carrying 25,000 narcotic tablets, was arrested at Perambur railway station by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Chennai on Tuesday. The suspect was identified as S Gunashree, 25, of Mylapore.Police said they received a tip off about a gang transporting narcotic tablets from Mumbai to Chennai by train. A police team kept watch near Perambur railway station when Gunashree was found standing near the station. As she gave inconsistent answers when questioned, they searched her bag and found the contraband. The search led to the seizure of 25,000 tablets concealed inside the bag.Preliminary inquiries indicated that the tablets had been transported from Mumbai by train. Police suspect that Gunashree had acted as a courier for the network. Investigators were questioning her to identify the persons who supplied the tablets and the intended recipient in Chennai.During the inquiry, Gunashree reportedly told police that she was paid between Rs 2.50 and Rs 3 for each tablet transported. She told investigators that the tablets were sold for Rs 15 to Rs 20 each, depending on demand. Police were examining whether she had made similar trips earlier and were tracing the source and intended destination of the seized tablets.ANTF was also investigating the possible involvement of other members of the network. Police were analysing the travel details and other available evidence to establish how the tablets were brought from Mumbai and distributed in Chennai.
