Four held in Guwahati theft cases; ₹5 lakh, gold recovered

Guwahati: Basistha police have arrested a couple and two alleged receivers of stolen property in connection with a series of thefts reported in the city.The accused have been identified as Faruk Hussain and his wife Jimli Sultana, who were arrested in Nagaon, and Tajmul Hussain and Satish Pawar, arrested in Nalbari.Police said they recovered around ₹5 lakh in cash, 24 grams of melted gold, nine mobile phones, ornaments and a vehicle during the investigation.The arrests followed a theft reported in Bhetapara last Monday, when the house owner was away. “Using technical analysis and source information, we identified the accused and arrested them in Nagaon,” said Kapil Pathak, OC of Basistha police station.According to police, Faruk was allegedly involved in multiple thefts, while Jimli helped hide the stolen items. Tajmul and Satish were allegedly habitual receivers who purchased or accepted stolen goods from Faruk.Police are also scrutinising the couple’s assets, transactions and investments. Investigators are examining alleged links to a domestic cricket team that participated in a state-level professional tournament in Assam. A case has been registered at Basistha police station.
