Varanasi: A 50-year-old man and his minor son were killed when a speeding truck ran over them near Bami on the Rewa highway under Lalganj police station in Mirzapur district on Monday.According to police, Shivanath, 50, and his son Priyanshu, 13, of Bami village, were going on a bicycle to the Tulsi Nala area in the morning. They were returning home when a truck coming from the Rewa side hit them near a petrol pump on NH-135 around 7am. Both died on the spot. After the collision, the driver abandoned the vehicle a short distance away and fled the scene.In protest against their deaths, locals blocked the highway, demanding financial assistance for the deceased’s family. Officials reached the spot, pacified them and assured them of legal action and possible government assistance. The blockade ended after about an hour, and traffic was restored.CO Lalganj Amar Bahadur said police seized the truck, sent the bodies for postmortem after conducting a panchnama.
