Jaipur/Jaisalmer: For 52-year-old Om Prakash, losing the municipal election was not the biggest shock. It was seeing zero votes against his name in the results Monday.A resident of ward 3, Prakash contested the councillor election for Sindhri municipality in Balotra district on a Rashtriya Jantantrik Party ticket. “It’s impossible! I know my family members voted for me,” Prakash said, expressing disbelief at the result. He is poised to escalate his grievance to the State Election Commission (SEC) and is even prepared to seek redressal from Rajasthan High Court, if necessary.Prakash’s case raised eyebrows amid unusual election results across the state, where candidates like BJP’s Kailash Chand from Parbatsar municipality reported securing just a single vote. Reflecting on his own scenario, Chand noted that his family and many supporters could not vote for him due to their registration in different wards. “I will come back stronger in the next election,” he said.In another instance, first-time Congress candidate Kusum from Sri Dungargarh municipality ended with a solitary vote as well. Despite an enthusiastic campaign supported by her husband, she was left disillusioned, saying, “All the crowd behind me betrayed me.” She acknowledged the hard lesson learned and looks forward to a more strategic approach in any future campaigns.
