Ghaziabad: Residents of Vaishali F Block have raised the alarm after overflowing sewers turned roads in the area into overgrown shrubberies. The dirty water is getting collected around the plants and leading to a foul smell pervading the neighbourhood, which could eventually pose a sanitation risk, they said. Similarly, residents of Vaibhav Khand in Indirapuram are contending with layers of dust and loose earth, while overflowing drains further exacerbate the situation.F Block residents’ welfare association president Dhirendra Kumar Singh Bhadauriya said the situation has persisted without any redressal so far. “A range of problems, including overflowing sewers and general sanitation issues, plague the area. An estimated 10,000 residents are suffering because of inadequate infrastructure and sanitation issues, particularly near the park at Ramlila ground,” he said.Several carts and stalls have also sprung up recently, encroaching on the roads in the area and making it more congested, he said.Bhadauriya said the RWA has written to the municipal corporation several times but the local authorities have not responded to their pleas.Meanwhile, residents of Vaibhav Khand in Indirapuram, who are also facing the same issue, said their situation was made even worse by loose earth around the drains, which would mix with the overflowing sewer water. Residents called for immediate attention from the local authorities to restore the area, especially for those who walk through it.A resident said, “Even if restoration work on these issues starts, contractors take their own time and delay the process. Elected officials do not take any responsibility in trying to finish the projects.”Residents demanded accountability and emphasised the importance of community engagement in advocating for necessary improvements, hoping to achieve better living conditions in their neighbourhoods.When asked if redressal for these issues had begun, officials in the municipal corporation said works are in progress and results will be visible soon.
