Agartala: Tripura and Mizoram have agreed to maintain the existing border arrangements while pursuing a permanent settlement to their longstanding interstate boundary dispute.The decision was taken at a meeting of senior officials from both states here on Thursday night. Home and revenue secretaries, district magistrates and superintendents of police attended the meeting.The two sides agreed to continue development activities in the border areas and involve the Survey of India in any future demarcation exercise.A joint technical team will be formed to examine available border and land records with the Survey of India before field surveys are undertaken. Both states will also appoint nodal officers for day-to-day coordination.The Survey of India will convene meetings of the joint technical team every two weeks at its Silchar office to work towards an agreement on border land records for future surveys.The meeting followed a discussion between Tripura CM Manik Saha and Mizoram CM Lalduhoma at the North Eastern Council meeting in Shillong last month. The two leaders had reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the dispute through dialogue.Recent concerns raised by villagers in Mizoram over the construction of a Tripura tourism project have added urgency to efforts to settle the boundary issue.Both states reiterated their commitment to finding a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution through constructive engagement. The latest meeting is expected to improve administrative coordination, strengthen border security and facilitate development in areas affected by the prolonged dispute.
