SHAHJAHANPUR: A 22-year-old pregnant woman died after allegedly undergoing surgery by a doctor who was under the influence of alcohol at a private hospital in UP’s Shahjahanpur, according to PTI.The woman, identified as Julie, delivered a baby boy, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.Julie, a resident of Kakarha village under Puwayan police station, had gone into labour on September 8 and was being taken to a government hospital in a private ambulance. However, the ambulance driver stopped outside a private hospital in Puwayan and suggested that her family consult a doctor.A case has been registered against two doctors in connection with her death.According to the FIR, Dr Firoz, who was at the hospital, called Dr KP from the city. Police said it was alleged that Dr KP arrived in an inebriated condition but proceeded with the surgery.Julie delivered a baby boy during the intervening night of September 8 and 9. Her condition later deteriorated, following which the doctor advised her family to take her to Bareilly, Bhaware said. Julie died while being taken there.Police registered a case against Dr KP and Dr Firoz on Thursday evening under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. An investigation is underway.
